ROOF PROJECT AND MORE

We have gone through all the approval processes of the Diocese for this project and have received the “go ahead.” We will need to borrow half the cost of the project ($675,000) from the Diocese and will repay the loan as part of the Centennial Campaign that every parish in the Diocese is required to undertake. My Advisory Councils have brainstormed other projects that will be part of this Capital Campaign based on the current needs of St. Ambrose Parish.

While a final list has not been determined, it may include the following:

Repaying the Diocesan loan for the roof replacement; parking lot resurfacing; replacing the heating and air conditioning units for the Church; enlarging the gathering space to allow for various liturgical rituals to take place at the entrance; redesigning the office space or converting the current office space into meeting rooms (and possibly a place for visitations before funerals); building a new office complex; ongoing security measures for Church and School; digital marquee on Homer Adams. And, of course, a new steeple if needed after the roof replacement.

More to come on this Centennial Campaign. If you have any suggestions for other projects, please contact a member of the Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Council or School Advisory Council, or one of the office staff.

Please include this campaign in your prayers even as we are only in the preparatory phase.

NOW…for some important information regarding the roof project. Zykan Exteriors will begin setting up in the lower parking lot on Monday, August 4. The upper lot will remain available for parking for the weekend Masses. The steeple will be removed on Monday, August 4 and stored on campus to assess its condition. The first part of the project will be the roof over the office. DAILY MASS will move to the GYM beginning Thursday, August 7, 2025. Mass will begin at the same time (Mondays at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday-Friday at 8:15 a.m.). Weekend Masses will take place in the Church. We originally considered celebrating daily Mass in the Community Center, but because of the activity with removing and replacing the roof, it might be too dangerous for folks to be walking around the area. If we have funerals on a weekday during the time of construction, we will notify Zykan Exteriors so they can accommodate the funeral. However, we will not be able to provide funeral luncheons in the Community Century for weekday funerals. Once School begins, the children begin arriving at 7:30 a.m. and have morning announcements and prayer in the gym. They will depart the gym before Mass begins (except for All School Mass days). I will ask that the parking nearest the gym be kept open for those who attend daily Mass. It may be awkward as parents and grandparents will be dropping off children when you arrive for Mass. Please follow the direction of the parking attendants (usually Mr. Baird and Deacon Jay). We are hopeful that the roof project will be completed by September 1, 2025. The guttering, steeple, etc., may take a little longer. Bottom line: Please bear with us as we navigate this necessary project. It is only temporary. Thanks for your cooperation
